Is there a ferry between the Galápagos Islands?
Yes. Passenger speedboats connect Santa Cruz with San Cristóbal, Isabela and Floreana daily or near-daily depending on the route. They are not large car ferries — they are boats of roughly 20 to 40 seats.
Is there a direct ferry between San Cristóbal and Isabela?
No. Every scheduled route passes through Santa Cruz, so you connect at Puerto Ayora: arrive on the morning boat and continue on an afternoon one. The same is true between San Cristóbal and Floreana, and between Isabela and Floreana.
Is the Galápagos ferry safe?
The vessels working these routes are registered and their departures are authorised by the Ecuadorian Navy. We only publish vessels that are verified in the system, with their declared capacity.
Will I get seasick on the ferry?
It is common: this is two hours of open ocean in a small boat. Seas are roughest from June to September and in the afternoon; if you are prone to it, take a tablet an hour before departure and sit toward the stern, near the centre line.
How much does the inter-island ferry cost?
The fare is set by each operator and you see it live when you search your route and date. Inter-island sea transport is exempt from IVA, so the price shown is the final ticket price.
What is the water taxi and why is it separate?
The ferries anchor in the bay rather than at the pier, so a water taxi takes you out to the boat. The boatman charges it in cash as you board, and it is not part of the ticket.
What is the biosecurity check?
Before boarding, the Ministry of Environment inspects luggage to stop species moving between islands. Do not carry fruit, vegetables, seeds or plants from one island to another.
Can I pay by card?
Yes. Card payment is processed online and your booking is confirmed the moment it is approved; the voucher arrives by email straight away.
What happens if I am late or miss the ferry?
The vessel leaves on time and does not wait. If you miss it there is no refund, and you would need to buy a new ticket on the next available boat.
Do I need the Transit Control Card for the ferry?
The Transit Control Card (TCT) is bought at the mainland airport when you fly to Galápagos, not for the inter-island ferry. To board the boat you need your ID and your voucher.
